Hello Averil,
The Nat Archives website says "This regiment was originally styled the 26th Light Dragoons but was ordered on 10 March 1803 to be considered the 23rd Light Dragoons. The regiment was disbanded at Radipole Barracks on 24 Nov 1817".
- So it was the 23rd Light Dragoons last, and if George Green's documents are missing from the time of the disbandment it would be very difficult to find his pension record - unless he was an officer? Rick?
Also Rick, if he was a regular soldier which series did you order to search for him at the National Archives? Pay lists, muster rolls, and other records of regular soldiers are arranged by regiments, and by battalions within regiments, but there are a few sources where the entire army was listed. For example WO 25/910 and thereabouts - soldiers liable to serve abroad on 24 June 1806 - lists each one alphabetically by battalion giving full name, rank, and details of service, for the entire army at that time. WO 22 Pension records were arranged by the district in which the soldier was living, but I have these recorded as being from 1842-82. Do you know what date George Green died, and where he was living?
