I've been looking at a family of Cleggs with a Manx connection in Bolton, Lancashire, through the censuses 1841-1891. There's a William Clegg and wife Margaret in 1841+1851:

There's a John Clegg b IOM circa 1817 who married Elizabeth Ashton b 1814 Bolton. From their marriage certificate (Bolton le Moors 3rd Jan 1838), John's father was William Clegg, shoe maker, and Elizabeth's father was Ralph Ashton, spinner. Here they are in the censuses:

Thomas Clegg b 1828's daughter, Eda Blanche Clegg b 1866, married John Robinson Tate b 1868 who was a grandson of John Clegg b 1817. (Fairfield, Liverpool, 27 April 1895). They were probably first cousins-once-removed.
The reason for this message is to ask if anyone recognises the Manx born couple, William Clegg b 1786 and wife Margaret b 1796.
My best guess is that they could have been William Clague of Lonan and Margaret Cowin who married 15th Dec 1814 Lonan. The IGI has the following extracted entries for their children:

The only entry which includes a birth date is for Thomas. I'm speculating that the family moved over to Lancashire before Thomas's birth, and that they returned to the IOM for a visit in the summer of 1828 to have Thomas baptised in the same church where his siblings had been baptised.
Can anyone support this theory, or demolish it ?
