It's only anecdotal, but for what it is worth Joseph Ridgway Bridson (1831-19O1) writing from his home in Windemere to his uncle John James Bridson (1811-1875) at Union Mills in 1870 wrote: 'I hope to get to the Island about Easter & shall certainly look you up - I have not been there for 14 years at least - and fear I shall not be able to speak my native tongue'.
