I think I'll pick the up thread you've found and check if there is any connection between the two families.

I was even thinking of second marriages and so on.

My grandmother definitely visited relatives. My mother remembers going with her grandfather (my grandmother's
father), then with her grandmother and finally with her mother who kept up the tradition.
