Hello Peter,

I am relatively new to genealogy. I was interested in your posting that a friend had found for me. I am looking for an Ann E. Lacey, who supposedly was born in Newfoundland about 1812. She may have been my maternal ggg-grandmother. She married a William Maher, born about 1810 in England; they were married in Ireland about 1832, and my gg-grandmother, Catherine Maher, was born about 1833 in Limerick, Ireland.

I have searched through all the church baptismal records available online for an Ann E. Lacey, born in St. John's Newfoundland (as was posted on the familysearch.org site by a church member) but could never find such a birth. Ann E.Lacey Maher supposedly moved with William to New York and Boston: Ann gave four different places of birth on four different U.S.A. censuses and she also gave four different ages on four censuses. I am beginning to wonder if this is the wrong direction to search for this Ann E. Lacey.

I have also tried to find an Ann Lacey born on the Isle of Man about 1810 to 1812, as this may be more likely as a person marrying a man from England, even though I don't know why they would have gone to Ireland to get married.

Ann E. Lacey has certainly been "My Elusive Ancestor". I realize that you said you are not related and were only providing the information as a means of being helpful to other people searching for Lacey's. I was interested that Thomas L. Lacey was born on the Isle of Man, even though it is over 130 years difference in dates between Thomas Lacey and (the possible) Ann E. Lacey. If anyone knows any more information about an Ann E. Lacey who may have been born on the IOM about 1812 and who married a William Maher, I would be very appreciative at hearing from them.

Kindest regards for your information.
