I have them first appearing on the 1871 Canadian census living in
Ontario. James died in 1883 and Mary eventually went to live with a
daughter in 1901 and passed in 1904. I have gaps between 1851 and 1871
for James & Mary, and 1881 to 1901 for Mary.

As I mentioned to Donna, Mary (Fairless) Hales, lists multiple places
for her birth, but her death lists Scotland as does the 1901 census.
I have found reference for their daughter Nettie Hannah Hales as
arriving in Canada in 1860, but I can not find any confirmation of this
for the rest of the family, Nettie would have only been 9 at the time.
