Re: MI for Joseph and/or Sarah Jane Cowin MI

Thanks for these Donna; the Cowin's info provides great confirmatory links with some of the baptism and burial records and specific death dates.

As per my earlier thread Sarah Jane Cowin was the daughter of Daniel and Eleanor Kermode. You had provided me with MI's for these individuals, which included Daniel's first wife Margaret (Killip). Children of Daniel and Eleanor included, in addition to Sarah, Hannah and Joseph (my gg father) a son James, which I show as having been baptized 14 Sept 1845, which would be consistent the MI for James Kermode you provided. Until I received your MI, I hadn't yet tracked James thoroughly, although, I have him in the 1851 and 1861 census, with his parents, then in the 1881 census with his wife "Ellen", and children Ellen Ann (9); Frederick James (4) and Mary Jane (1).

I'm wondering if James' wife Ellen died at age 37, Lonan on 12 October 1887 (Lawson's BMD) and if James then married Mary Ann Caley in Braddan on 9 October 1888 (Lawson's BMD) and that it was this Mary Ann referenced on the MI your provided. Thus why Frederick James was listed as "son of James Kermode" and not also of Mary Ann. I'm having some difficulty tracking an 1891 census for Mary Ann and/or James; however, there is an 1891 England census (Warkington, Cumberland, England) entry showing a James Kermode 44, as a "lodger" born in Laxey. Also a 1901 Conchan IOM census with James (55), Mary Ann 50, with children Louisa (10) and Rebecca (8), both born in England; Cumberland area according to the BMD). So, I'm thinking that James married Mary Ann Caley and worked in England for a time, where Louisa and Rebecca were born and before returning to IOM. James' children with Ellen were, with the possible exception of Mary Jane (age 11 in 1891) old enough to be on their own in 1891. I have an IOM 1891 and 1901 census entries for Mary Jane Kermode as a "niece" living with William and Annie Brew (with mother-to William Ann Caley age 74, in the 1891 census).

So I think it comes together. Would you have an MI for the Ellen Kermode died, Age 37, Lonan, buried on 12 Oct 1887, which may indicate her maiden name and/or link to James?

I have on order from LDS a will for Daniel Kermode buried 28 Dec 1825, which I'm hoping will show him as the father of Daniel Kermode, grandfather to James.
