Hi Clive
Your help before with a posting (1 Dec1999!) re James & Jane Callow's 2 IOM chn Marg 1813 & Ann 1815 bapt Lonan set us on the right track so thanks very much; it pinpoints them arriving in Whitehaven aft Ann's bapt Jan 1815 & before her burial 18 May 1817.

Always interested in any connection between Whitehaven Callows & IOM. So far I haven't made any connection to those names you mentioned; although I had asked them to research an earlier era than you mentioned, looking more at c1816-1850s.

Cumbria research gave other Callow families as follows
from the "Cumberland Pacquet Newspaper Index", they listed (all Whitehaven unless otherwise listed):
Ann marriage 18 Dec 1820 3d (refers to page & col # in newspaper)
Catherine marriage 15 Feb 1814 3b
Elizabeth death 2 Dec 1828 3e
Elizabeth (Castletown) death 4 Feb 1834 3d
Jane marriage 28 Sept 1819 3a
Jane (Cockermouth) death 17 Mar 1835 2f
Jane marriage 14 Dec 1852 3e
Thomas marriage (sailmaker) 8 Nov 1788 3a
Thomas Wm death (sailmaker) 29 Mar 1842 3e
Thomas death (fisherman) 11 Apr 1854 5e
William death 11 Apr 1820 3c

They also located from Wills, Deanery of Copeland 1800-58; both in Whitehaven
Allison Callow 1841
Mary Callow 1841

The other info they found confirmed that:
Direct ancestor James Callow born IOM c 1785 & married to Jane (most likely Quine) in Lonan (former seaman, merchant service) aged 83, died at the Union Workhouse Preston Quarter on 24 April 1868. However the admissions & discharge register of the Workhouse for this period did not survive so we have no definite idea of who James' parents were; possible link as has been discussed on forum before to being illegitimate bapt 16 Jan 1785 & on IGI as Cannel; son of James Callow & Margaret Cannel Braddan.
Thanks again Clive; in case we do make a link to Daniel Callow of Maughold/ Cleator Moor have noted your info
Shan
