Having spoken to various people concerned with the IMuseum, there's a few snags that are needed to overcome in order to present a fully operational system to the public. The unofficial date is optimistically intended for the 9th March, but like I said, there are a few teething troubles as one would expect for an operation of this size and these do need to be ironed out so that people receive a first class presentation of their chosen areas of study.
I understand that there's many terabytes of information available, which must be a cause for concern in some quarters, but the finishing touches are extremely close at hand and I look forward to being invited along with other members of the Family History Society, to a presentation of the facilities in the near future. Please keep an eye out on the IOMFHS website 'Latest News' as once I've received confirmation of the vislt, I will update the site immediately for a members only visit.
I would like to add that the IOM Post Office Stamps and Coins have produced a superb selection of Genealogy stamps and I'm pleased to say that I and other FHS members, received a discounted price at the meeting in Union Mills Methodist Church due to the involvement of the Family History Society. For those Philatelist's amongst us or even if you wish to have Manx surnamed stamps, the Genealogy stamps are absolutely amazing and I personally thought, 'incredibly cheap too'. I loved the Manx Surnames around the stamp and for further information, please visit their site post/stamps/FutureIssue.aspx?categoryid=215 and take a closer look at the surnames around the edge.
To all those involved, fantastic stamps and for £5 or so, get them while you can, as they'll be selling like hotcakes.
The meeting itself was incredibly informative and with MHK Geoff Corkish giving a talk in the latter stages, their was thunderous applause at the end for an extremely funny presentation about the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company. A tremendous night all round and with the backing of the Isle of Man Government Tourist Board, I look forward to hearing about the exhibition in "Who do you think you are?" which is being held in London, Olympia and for those who can make it, I'd like to hear what you thought of the Exhibition and email me (replace AT with @) pwiomATmanx.net
Kind Regards,
