Re: Gelling Sayle Barque Ocean 1827

Hi Eric, and Frances,

I am glad, Eric, that you agree with my speculations regarding Paul and Catherine Gelling. It does, indeed, all seem to come together. I would like to find burials for Paul (and Cath --not sure if Paul, Jr. was actually an orphan or if he was called "orphan" becuase his father had died. I guess Cah would have been mentioned in the guardianship, had she been alive. I am thinking that they may have been buried in Warrensville. Those burial records are not yet on line. I will see if I can write for some records. The other early cemeteries in Cleveland itself are online, and the Gellings are not there.

Regarding the family of John Gelling/Elinor Sayle, I accepted Frances' identification of the couple on the Sir Howard Douglas, 1827, as being Margaret Gelling. (See Manx Notebook, emigration pages) It all fits together. I assume they probably went to Ohio with Paul and Catherine Gelling, but have no evidence of that.

I am glad to have the "almost certain" identtification of Catherine Sayle as the daughter of John Sayle and Catherine Kinley. Makes sense that she was on the same ship as her parents.

So, thanks to you both, a few more Ohio immigrants put into the right families.

Lois
