My great-grandfather was William Edwin Brew, mother Jane Seddon and father Thomas Brew. He had three children Edwin, Alice Jane and Harry, only Harry survived to have children, including my mother. Edwin, as seems to have been known in Scotland, lived most of his life in Glasgow, where I grew up. He left Alice Carberry, I think she may have been Irish, and lived with another woman called Rose Murphy. My grandfather spoke about Rose as if she were his mother and it was only recently my mum found out this was not the case!
I wondered if Alice Carberry also came from the Isle of Man but it appears not.
