first point to note is that contrary to what the Mormons have the Isle of Man is NOT (and never has been) a part of England - it has its own registry from which certificates can be obtained - see www.gov.im - however civil registration did not start until 1877 (different years for B M + D's) thus pre this period all you will get is an expensive copy of the official transcript of the parish registers - the mormons filmed this copy and is the source of the extracted entries in the IGI - you can borrow the films for about half the price of a certificate - the original parish registers have now been digitised but not 100% certain how and when the images will be made available - there is a new iCentre due to open early next year at which research can be done but the images may also go online( possibly as a pay per view) - a new index to entries was put together by volunteers at Manx Museum and this forms the start of the beta site on the IGI which covers mid 19th C.
