Thanks so much, Donna. I'm certain that Selina (d.1924 of 31 Anson Rd Rushholme), William (d.1941 of 60 Atholl St Douglas), and Ethel Lottie aged 7 1/2, were the parents and sister of Edith Blanche (of Bucks Road in 1923).

It looks as though, as was often the case in the 1800s and shown in censuses, Edith Blanche was probably living with her parents, with her illegitimate baby(ies) being looked after by her mother while Edith/Blanche was at work. Then her mother became too ill to do so, which led to the adoption, and died on 14 July 1924.

Pat, do you have Marion's date of birth in 1923, and the date of adoption in 1924, to see whether there was a gap? Or whether it was only days or a couple of weeks which was usual?
You are very lucky that her adoption was registered because this was unusual before the Adoption of Children Act of 1926.

Jean, sorry, I don't know about consecutive numbering (or not) in the indexes, but would have thought that twins would have the same number, because registered together? But maybe the IOM differs in this regard.
