2 years after my original enquiries... I finally found out more about James Kerridge who married Margaret Shimmin on IOM. I accessed the NA Army records on Find My Past and it confirmed that James was from Ipswich Suffolk, joined up 1816 (aged 16) to the 80th foot, served in Malta... so this supports the IOM and the Manx Advertiser report on men from the 80th foot departing for Malta... If anyone wants more detil, let me know.
