You need to go to Kew. Discharge certs and pension records are extremely detailed - see their guides for exact call numbers within WO 97. You should find all his details from address, occupation on enlistment, to his full description, as well as his army career. Until 1883 the certs of soldiers discharged to pension were kept separately from the certs of those discharged after limited engagements or for other reasons - until 1872 they are arranged by regiment. When I looked at these they produced the original documents in boxes, arranged alphabetically (but of course put out of order by careless researchers), but were well worth the search and the grimy hands! If you can't get to Kew you may find them on film through a LDS Family History Centre, but as they give their films different titles to the original records they can be tricky to find in their catalogue.
