Liz, thanks for going to so much trouble! That's brilliant, at least we have some confirmation that she was born on the island now. I can now write to get a copy of her birth cert.

Sue - this certainly looks like our Dorothy, especially now based on the birth info from LIz. How intriguing that she may have had a younger brother. There's no mention of this child in the family lore, so it will be interesting to try and track him and tie him to Dorothy and Elizabeth. I wonder too if Harris, the middle name, has any significance in relation to his father's surname. In Scotland if an illegitimate child's middle name is a surname, it is usually the father's surname.

OK I'm off to ponder over what we've got and work out next steps now. Thanks again for all of your help and interest. My friend will be so grateful when I go through all this with her.
