Thanks again Frances, you've been very helpful to me!!!!!
1851 census I have the following family:
Parish of German
House Ballaquayle
William Callin 44 Head Mariner born in Patrick
Esther Callin 39 Wife Mariner's wife born Peel
Esther Callin 3 dau born Peel
William Callin 6mo son born Peel
John Carran 9 wife's son scholar born Peel
Esther Leece 82 wife's mother widow born German
I had never noticed John Carran as "wife's son" before! Will have to look into that...illegitimate or was she married before???
This census would prove that Esther Leece m. William Callin though, due to Esther Leece "wife's mother" living with them.
I have another stupid question though. All the families on this page of the census are listed as living in House Ballaquayle. Were there boarding houses then or would Ballaquayle be a village or locality?
Thanks,
Kim
