This might be barking up the wrong tree, but here's a Sprung family with strong Manx connections. I've pasted in various bits that together show a German, Carl Ludwig Sprung b circa 1811, marrying a Margaret Looney b circa 1813. One of their sons, Carl Ludvig b 1838 in Liverpool, married Mary Ann Cregeen b 1841 Rushen, in 1860, Braddan.

Then I think that Mary Ann died in Mar Q 1881 in Liverpool, so perhaps Carl Ludwig aka Lewis then married Agnes, had the 2 boys, Gustav and John Joseph, and then died before the 1891 census. Perhaps Agnes came to live in the IOM, and as the widow of a cigar maker, could afford to send her sons to boarding school ?
