Many thanks for your message. I knew that Clucas Joughin had emigrated to Canada following two of the sons over there. I think this was shortly before WW1. There is an obituary in one of the Manx papers when he died which gives an outline of his life.
His father, John Joughin MHK was the brother to Mary Ann Joughin, who became Corrin. Their eldest daughter Christiana, born in 1863 married Arthur Brown, and in 1906 they had a daughter Elaine, who was my mother. The common link in the families is John Joughin Snt 1803-1868 and Cath Clucas, known in Peel as Kitty the Chaney. One interesting problem with John Joughin is that he had TWO separate possible baptism dates in the Parish register in 1803 and 1804. It may be that John Joughin Snr's parents had a baby who was not christened for a while, then took sick in 1803, was hurriedly baptised and died. and a second one was altready on the way. so was also John. On the other hand thee is sometimes a baptism and a received into the church, so you can have two dates and theregister is not always clear. The parish records DO NOT give a clear answer, so it is only if any family records survive that we will know.
I have done a good deal of work on the CLucas side, i.e. John Joughin Snr's wife, and she was for a long time a mystery as she was attrivuted to a non existent David Clucas.
best wishes
Robert
