I am trying to find the parents of Nathaniel Caine 1810-1877 who, though he was born in Liverpool, was often referred to as a Manxman. I'm fairly sure that his father was from the Island. Nathaniel was a prominent figure in his day, starting his career as an iron merchant (possibly his father's line of business) then becoming co-founder of the immensely successful Hodbarrow Mining Co. He was also a magistrate and the flag on Liverpool Town Hall was flown at half-mast when he died. For all this, I can find no record of his parents, tho' he did have a brother William Sproston Caine. (He also named a son William Sproston Caine (1842-1903) who was a Liberal MP, author and Temperance activist!). I'd be most grateful if anyone knows how he is connected to the island.
(BTW he was my 3 gts grandfather, hence the interest).
