Hi John,
As he didn't marry until 1896 he may have arrived in NZ later than most of the IOM immigrants who usually arrived during the 1870s-80s, under the assisted immigration programmes. He may have left later to join his brother who could have already been in NZ? This was common, that one brother would go first and later sponsor a number of other siblings who would follow in dribs and drabs.
If he left the IOM in the 1890s I don't think he would be in the NZ Archives' indexes.
1859 is too early for an IOM cert - civil regt didn't start for births until 1878 - so parish registers are the only source (bapts). A couple of people have suggested James Edward Corkill bapt 22 May 1859, but this would be a false lead. He stayed in Maughold and has living descendants there.
There was also a James bapt 31 Jan. 1858 in Maughold, son of James Corkill & Margaret Clague. If you want any more information about them let me know. [James could have taken a year off his age if he married late?]
If not, the best bet, judging only by the IGI [www.Familysearch.com], was the other James Edward Corkill bapt 11 March 1860 at Dhoon Christ Church, (Maughold), son of John Corkill [s/o Peter C., farmer] & Ann Corkill [d/o William Corkill, labourer].
If so, he was still in the IOM for the 1881 census:
Name Relation Marital Status Gender Age Birthplace Occupation Disability
John CORKILL Head M Male 69 Maughold, Farmer of 21 Acres
Ann CORKILL Wife M Female 47 Maughold,
James E. CORKILL Son U Male 21 Maughold, Farm Servant (Indoor)

Frederick CORKILL Son Male 12 Maughold, Scholar
George H. CORKILL Son Male 11 Maughold, Scholar
Emily F. CRENNELL Grand Daur Female 10 Maughold, Scholar
