Re: Arthur Corkill
In Response To: Arthur Corkill ()

The Arthur Corkill in Lancs has turned out to be a red herring!
This is Arthur's marriage:
29 Jul 1896 James Arthur CORKILL 23 Bachelor Baker Ramsey, [father] William Corkill, Butcher
Margaret Anne CHRISTIAN 24 spinster Ramsey Wm Edward Christian, Mariner.
[Thanks to Tom Corteen for the transcript.]

So James Arthur C. - and probably why you couldn't find him?

And from this Brian Lawson has given us:

Mary a, daughter, unmarried, 7, scholar, Maughold

William the butcher was bapt. Ramsey 6 May 1842, son of Thomas & wife Mary Clague [recorded on the Lonan gravestone - last message].

Thomas was the eldest son of Thomas & Margaret Creech, bapt 14 Dec.1816 pre their marriage, so under Creech in the IGI. Luckily he was mentioned in the 1836 will of his grandmother Ann Creech als Corteen as "my grandson Thomas Corkill (that is Thommy Ballagorry's son) all my sheep".

"Thommy Ballagorry" was Thomas bapt. 13 April 1783, a weaver of Ballachrink, Maughold, a younger son of John bapt. 2 Oct.1743 & Jane Skillicorn of Ballagorry Mooar, Maughold. John a "Manx Worthy" [RN] and one of a long line of Corkills farming at Ballagorry Mooar, Maughold.
