Re: Mona Street
In Response To: Re: Mona Street ()

Hi, Elizabeth. 1 Mount Havelock was on the Government Office side of the foot of Albert Street. I can vaguely picture it in my mind. It is now razed, and is part of the new G.O. car rubble car park. That side of Albert Street is now the Court House, and the opposite side is still dwelling houses with an office or two. The houses between Albert Street and Mona Street on Mount Havelock have also been razed and rebuilt as more Government Offices, and the other side of Mona Street towards Christian Road have had major alterations, to offices.

To try and remind you of the area, imagine a trident. Albert Street is the spline on the left, Mona Street in the middle, and Christian Road on the right. Mount Havelock runs across the bottom. Many people used to mix the three streets up.

Most of the houses in the area have been boarding houses in the past, in the summer, and family houses in the winter. Things have changed a lot since you were here, I guess. Susanne.
