The book has a small biography of Tossie Clucas, 1880-1950, born Kirby cottages 3rd son of Thomas Clucas/Annie Radcliffe - the elder Thomas was gardener to William Dalyrymple; Annie took in washing - son Thomas (Tossie) started at Cowen's laundry in the village and then opened his own in Circular Rd Douglas in 1906 and then bought Tromode works; after that he succeeded well - became prominent business leader, member of Douglas Town councikl 10 yrs and a MHK for 11.
