Mona's Herald, Monday, 16th June 1845;

We call particular attention to Mrs. Quiggin's advertisement of the republishing of an ancient map of this Island. The map takes date as far back as 1595, and is a curiosity to Manx antiquarians. The shape of the Island is very different, by that map, from its present shape, as established by modern surveys, being much longer in proportion to its width.

Many of the loughs, or inland ponds, which are clearly defined in that map, have since dried, and their beds are now covered by corn and grass. The orthography of names of places has been much altered, and we think not for the better, as formerly they had a distinct meaning in the Celtic of our forefathers.

The referenced Advertisement: - the history of the appearance of the map is apparently known - Speed's map was possibly too complicated to copy

Isle of Man in 1595.
