[from A.M Harrision's Descriptive List of Insular Societies]

(6) The Court of Apollo - May 1794.

Description

The first meeting of this Society reported in the Douglas News column of the Manx Mercury of May 20 records a group of 'about twenty' at 'Mr Armstrong's' spending the evening in 'the greatest harmony and social mirth. Several loyal toasts were given, and "God save the King" was sung in full chorus, with a fervency that sufficiently evinced the union of heart and voice'.

The notice of the next meeting, at the house of Mr. George Wilson, of what is apparently, despite its mythological title, a convivial and patriotic club of expatriate Britons, is its last record.
