This specialist study is outside of my interests - the now disbanded Centre for Manx Studies had a strong interest in the geology of the Island and their recent findings appeared as Volume 1 of the New History "The Evolution of the Natural Landscape" published in 2006 by Liverpool University Press.

The first significant work on Manx Geology is that by Rev J. C. Cumming appearing first in 1846 then in his book The Isle of Man in 1848.

Cubbon in his Bibliography pp12/16 vol 1has notice of most references pre 1930 - the significant number of papers in the first publications of the IoM Natural History and Antiquarian Society was due to the formation of a very active but shortlived Manx Geological Society in 1888-1890..

An example of late Victorian popular science is the account by W Jerome Harrison in 1883.

The classic text is that of Lamplugh of 1903; a shorter overview was given in 1897; both are now obviously out of date in some respects, T.D.Ford's work is probably the most convenient single work.
