I've been using Find My Past for a couple of years and found it very useful. Especially useful is the Census search facility which is free, so you can search for Fred Bloggs and it'll list all the Fred Bloggs alongwith with their Age and County, you can then pay to see the transcription or original record, if the details fit. You can ask for exact matches or similar names, so you can also get the Fredericks and Freddies etc. if you want.
