That's a good thought, Nan. I remember plenty of people (well, Thomases) related and otherwise, being called Tossie when I was a child - Tossie Cowin (shop in Douglas) Tossie Cringle, Tossie Cowley etc. The vowel difference between Dawsey and Tossie feels a bit of a stumbling block, but then I don't remember seeing any 'Tossies' in Keig's list and surely it was common in Ballaugh as well as Douglas? So perhaps it was just the way he chose to write it down. Don't know how that works for Dawsey Kewley though....
