Hi Donna
A few weeks ago you kindly looked up an MI in Arbory for
Henry Clague (AY/D24) of Ballagawne ....died 13th January 1804, aged 48years.......
Also Margaret Clague alias Quirk.........died 2nd July 1897, aged 73 years.
I disputed this at the time as it meant she was born after he died, therefore I shouldn't exist!
Having finely got round to visiting the grave the last day of my holiday on the Island I felt the grave inscription!
There was little to see towards the end of the inscription, as unfortunately it is a flat stone rather than erect one, and therefore more worn. However, by touch it reads:
Also MARGARET CLAGUE alias QUIRK wife of HENRY CLAGUE, who died on the 2nd day of July 1823, aded 73 years.
This is confirmed by her 1823 Will which I found and am transcribing.
This is 1 of 6 graves, in a family plot D22-D27 in an enclosed site, ie railed.
D26 is of Margaret Clague's son Johns' grave in 1811 and should read ....
8th day of June 1811, aged 27 years. (Not 97).
Again a flat well worn stone.
John was brother to Margaret Cooil nee Clague (married Thomas Cooil 1828) Ballacooil/e, Earystane and Catherine Bridson nee Clague Ballagawne (married Mathew Bridson 1811)
Have yet to write to the IOMFHS to report transcription errors but will be doing so shortly.
Thanks for your earlier help.
Karen
