both Alexander & wife Mary were Irish born thus you will have usual difficulties in going back beyond them, Manx records seldom give any additional info tho the 1861 does give Co down for all irish born in family - Mary appears to have been mary mcdowall but suspect marriage off island (?possibly in Roman catholic marriages + bapts for children)
