james was irish born - there were two other Oliver families witha role in manx history - a Scot's born Alexander Oliver (children bapt athol st chapel) who was a gardener and I think involved in some nursery gardens and Dr John Oliver who edited a couple of the manx Soc volumes - none of these 3 families were related as far as I can tell.
