Re Sheard family
When I was posting a query I saw the name Sheard. This is a long shot, but would the originator of this thread be related to Allan Mylchreest Sheard, who was the Manager of the Isle of Man Railway from 1927 to his death in 1965. "AM" has received a deplorable press from many enthusiasts who were not aware of the amazing manner in which he single handedly saved the Steam railway on at least four occasions. He was, without doubt, a truly outstanding manager, and I have been working for many years on an account of the Railway from the 1920s to the 1970s, in which I intend to set the record straight. The Island was incredibly fortunate, and AM, who was not renowned for suffering fools gladly, was quite willing to accept the flak if it saved the railway, but it is time he received the credit that is due to him.
I have some biographical details, but would like to build up a proper account of this outstanding man.
