Mae could be short for Mabel but not in this case. The letters were written in 2002. Mabel is my great-grandmother and died in 1981, I was about 9 years old. I remember quite a bit about her, we would stop at her house on our way to the swimming pool in the summer. She also knit doilies, something she learned living on the island and she was always whistling songs.

I will send a note to the civil registry to see what they can come up with. I greatly appreciate the information.
