Subject name Garrett and possibly Kayll.
First of all, many thanks to the folks who have replied to my research queries re Jourgin, Chapman and Corrin, which vae confirmed several family points and added some new names.
Second, my thanks go to Brew researchers, as I am preparing a book on IOM shipping and had some problems. To further the research, I am looking at the Garrett family in the IOM. Dr Philip Garreatt was apparently baptised 3 Aug 1785 to parents Philip Garret and Lucy Kelley at St Matthews, Douglas. He married Helen or Helena Miller 15 Jan 1807 at St Georges, and had at least 3 children, Charlotte, born c1815, Helena Margaret, christened 17 November 1816, and Philip Lewis, christened 18 April 1824. Dr Garrett was buried at Braddan on 2 July 1845, aged 59.
He was one of the founder directors of the IOM Steam Packet in 1830. I am trying to trace backwards to see if the John Garrett who married Isabella Kayll or Kayle at St Germans on 17 January 1813 is related. She was a niece of J J Kayll, brewer and maltster of Douglas. On the Kayll side I do know the connections from their arrival on the Island, but the Garrett thread is not yet clear to me.
Any information will be welcome, and if anyone knows who the two daughters married I would be glad to know.
Many thanks Robert Hendry
