Eleanor Jane Corkhill was my gtx2 grandmother she was born c 1853 in the Isle of Man, parents John (b Ireland c 1831) and mother Isabella (b Isle of Man c 1832). Parents variously went by the names Mehan/Meehan/Meeham/Meeam as did Eleanor.
Eleanor had an illegitimate daughter Isabella Meeam registered in 1871 whilst living in Newhall, Derbyshire. The family then moved to the Barnsley area of Yorkshire. Eleanor Jane Corkhill married Herbert Draycott and had a further 6 daughters with Hannah (b 1873 marrying my Gtgrandfather Charles Smith)
According to family legend - the family in the Isle of Man were well off owning farms and a hotel. My late Aunt used to go over to the IoM to work in the hotel. The Manx family died out in about the late 50's early 60's intestate and their was some dispute over the will with my great uncles (Eleanor's grandchildren - Smiths) who ended up with nothing.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Many thanks
Pam
