Hi Julia,
There are too many coincidences in your tree and mine for there NOT to be a connection somewhere!
My direct line is:
Matthias Cain b abt 1807 in Marown. He was a Baker and Four Dealer, married to a Catherine - last name not known.
Children:
William b 1827
Ellen 1829
Robert 1837
Thomas 1839
James 1842
Catherine 1845
John 1847
Joseph 1850
I have Matthias in the 1837 Gore's directory at:
Strand Street, Onchan - Baker & Flour Dealer.
In 1841 census:
Bond Street, Onchan, Baker
In 1851 census
5 New Bond Street, Onchan, Baker & Flour dealer.
Ellen is absent from the 1851 census and I traced her marrying Thomas Fayle in Liverpool in 1847. He is also a baker - and born in the Isle of Man abt 1822.
These are my gt gt gt grandparents.
I have these 2 well documented from their marriage.
The rest of the Cain family disappears completely after 1851 - that is to say I haven't been able to trace anything of them at all!
If any of these names ring a bell or appear in your tree I'd be delighted to hear from you.
This family is a major brick wall for me!
Best wishes
Bob Harrison
