Hi Sue
My link to the Radcliffe's is very much by marriage ie, my Aunt Lily (who, thanks to Mary M, I now know was actually Margaret Lily, nee Starkey) married Geoffrey Hubert Lace, son of John and Eleanor Lace (nee Bateman) and brother of Isabella Doris - who went on to become (apparently) well known as Doris (or Mother) Radcliffe.
Eleanor Lace ran a cafe from Hillside Cottage with Doris. Doris then moved to larger premises at the Lhen Bridge, and my Aunt and Uncle moved into the cottage in 1945 (ish) where they remained until their deaths from flu, within 2 days of each other, in 1975.
I am particularly interested in a pictorial/social history here, because I remember visiting Aunt Lily at the cottage as a child, and going to the cafe by the bridge, but had no idea that they were linked in this way. All of the above are mentioned in Sally McCambridge's book Andreas, but as far as I'm aware, there are no photos?
I don't know if there is a link to all your Radcliffes, and I don't at present have any more information, so can't elucidate further - sorry!
Maggie
