Mermaid - Lpl to Akld 1859

Departed Liverpool, England, 11 July 1859; arrived Auckland, New Zealand, 19 October 1859.

The following is an alphabetical list of the passengers who travelled to Auckland on the Mermaid during its 1859 voyage. The list has been compiled from those published in the DAILY SOUTHERN CROSS (19 October 1859 issue) and THE NEW ZEALANDER (21 October 1859 issue). A description of the voyage was also included in THE NEW ZEALANDER, and reads, in part: "….the MERMAID has come into port in capital order, clean comfortable, and a credit to the line to which she belongs. The passangers speak very highly of Capt. White and when we (the reporters) left the ship, they (the passangers) were mustered on the quarter-deck for the purpose of presenting him with a complimentary address from all on board. The ship has been remarkably healthy. There were two births and three deaths of population, and as far as appearances go of a desirable class."

For further information, see James Qualtrough's Diary of the voyage of the Mermaid.
