I was told by the MM staff several years ago that they no longer copy and send wills for a fee. I think the reason was because they take too long to find.
I double-checked with them a couple of years ago after someone on the board wrote that they had copied one for her, but apparently that was a one-off they had done during staff training.
This is what they wrote: "The note of gratitude which appeared on the on-line discussion board is a little unfortunate because it implies a change of our longstanding policy preventing the Library staff from making copies of wills in response to requests by the public. The Library’s policy has not changed nor will it change. Therefore please continue to advise people that they should either look themselves or use the services of a local Record Agent, a friend or a family member to locate wills and obtain copies. I’m sure that people will continue to use the discussion board to express a range of concerns but in respect of copy wills the ‘hard and fast’ rule applies".
