Re: John & Peggy Cowin
In Response To: John & Peggy Cowin ()

Maughold parish register has:
James Hogg & Jane Davies married 23 July 1774. With consent of parents. (i.e. under age 21.)

Could be:
James son of James Hogg & Ann bapt. 4 Mar 1738/39.
Jane daur of Robert Davis & Jane Carran bapt. 13 Mar 1754.

Bapts:
Anne [daur of] James Hogg & Anne Jane Davies [bapt] Parish Church 8 Mar 1775

James HOGG buried Jul 31 1799.
Possible will: HOGG, James 1800 Mau E 1 [LDS film no.] 0106407, from Brian Lawson's website.
Also father James Hogg? HOGG, James 1781-1 Mau E d 0106396.

It looks as though my bapt guesses above for the parents might be correct because the Radcliffes in their book about Maughold write that the north-west part of the Dhoon, Maughold, now known as Callan, was bought in Oct.1766 by Robert Davis (d.1781), and this passed to Robert's granddaughter Ann Hogg who married Thomas Kelly of Ballaugh. In the same month and year James Hogg bought the southern part (right by the Glen), and his grandson John was living there with his son John in 1861.
