Hi Frances
I know this thread was a while back but you mentioned Benjamin Alexander being known as John? I wonder if you could advise why you thought this please?
I have his name on all census as Benjamin up to 1871 in Liverpool, His wife Christian(a) was widowed by 1881 but have not been able to find Benjamins death details. There is however a death for a John Alexander in west Derby 1875, born about 1804.
Benjamin did have a brother John born 1810 so have always though the John who died 1875 cant be the one. However, Benjamin and Christian had a son William Benjamin born 1836 who was known as Benjamin but later called another son William (even though the other was still alive)and he was known as William.
So, in short, thinking along these lines, could Benjamin bc1801, really have been John Benjamin, known as Benjamin. Do you remember or have any reference why you indicated he may have been known as John? I may just order the certificate to see anyway but to save possible wasted funds just thought I would ask.
many thanks
Sandra
