Re: Ralfe & La Mothe families on IOM

Hi Dawn,

In the 1851 census two sons were in Malew, Bowling Green, as two of the 7 boarders (and 2 lodgers - don't know the difference!) of Sarah Y Blacker, widow, 43 b. England, and her son William L. aged 8 b. Peel. Whitfield Ralfe aged 13 and John H. Ralfe ag.11, both b. Ramsey.
Assume John Henry RALFE bapt 4 Oct.1839 Ramsey, and Fredk Whitfield RALFE bapt 28 June 1838 Ramsey [from IGI].

The 1841 census has adult ages rounded, and no relationships given, nor exact places of birth. The family is in Balure Road, Ramsey, with Pilcher Ralfe aged 45, Navy H.P., b. E[ngland], Pilcher aged 5 also b. England, Fredk aged 3 & John aged 2 both b. IoM, and 2 female servants.

I don't usually look up censuses for people on Ancestry (online) because I have a very slow computer connection in a "black" area - however - who was the other child, his/her birth date, and which three went to NZ? (And when?)

Finally located son Pilcher J. aged 24 (under Ralph) in the 1861 census, a farmer in Lezayre, b. Sheerness Isle of Sheppey, with wife Jessie Frances, 25, b. Castle Douglas? Scotland, and son George 2 months b. Lezayre, and 3 servants. Sorry, I can't read their address, but Brian Lawson will be able to tell you (email address on his website).
"The Isle of Sheppey is a small island off the North Kent coast and is approximately 9 miles long by 5 miles wide". http://home.btconnect.com/connetts-farm/sheppey.htm
