Thanks Brian. Does anyone know in what instances the child would have been allowed to take the Fathers name? Just wondered if it had of been possible why more Mothers wouldnt have done this. ie if the Father had admitted paternity.
I read somewhere that if the parents married within a certain length of time the child could assume the Fathers name. I know that some children were later known by the Fathers name when registered under the Mothers name but wouldnt this have confused matters when they had to present their birth certificate at a later date for marriage purposes say?
So, no specific Law on this c1900?
