Re: Elizabeth Callon
In Response To: Re: Elizabeth Callon ()

Thank you everybody for your time. I think the spelling of Callon is basically right in this case. Robert Callon appears to match in 1871 in the West Derby Union workhouse.
I am interested in this family because I have been searching for a long time for Robert Callin, labourer, who is named twice in parish marriage registers as the father of John James Callin (the Lonan Callins). So far I have been unable to identify John James Callin's birth, Andreas, approx 1839, or to find him in the 1841/1851 census data.
This Liverpool family could fit, as they seem to have been in the IOM around the right time and had an apparently unregistered daughter, Elizabeth. If Robert Callon was an itinerant worker, or just a visitor, perhaps his children were not recorded in the parish register, particularly if they were a Catholic family from Liverpool.
Does anyone know if men travelled to the IOM for work around 1835 -40? I always thought it was the islanders who travelled to Liverpool for work.
Thanks
Susan
