Thomas was a Shipwright Journeyman and left for England in 1840 he went the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, then onto Woolwich/Deptford and finally the London docks. (All dock areas) His first-born was also a Shipwright Journey Man. The majority of the family worked either in the docks or on ships in some way or other. I take it the Isle of Man had quite a few Shipwrights at that time.
Many of Thomas and Catherine grandchildren left England and went to Canada, USA, Australia, although we are still in jolly old blighty. There are fifteen in our immediate family and many more brothers, sisters and cousins, although as far as I am aware not one working in shipping.
If they only knew what they had started.
