Sue is absolutely right. In addition if you add in the possibility of genuine mistakes, forgetfulness, lack of knowledge in the first place and, dare I say it, vanity - putting down a younger age than accurate - plus reading and transcription errors, you get to distrust dates a bit. If it leads you straight there, then fine. If not, try another angle.
