Maddrells of Ballaquark

I’m trying to trace some of the children of Robert Maddrell (1833-1899) and Eleanor Quilleash Maddrell (1834-1895) who lived at Ballaquark, Lonan. Their children were:

1. Eleanor b. 1861
2. Robert b. 1863
3. William b 1865 d 1905
4. James b. 1867
5. Margaret Jane. b. 1869 d. 1953
6. Annie Maria b. 1870 d. 1895
7. Joseph b. 1875 d. 1883
8. Catherine b. 1877
9. Lewis b. 1879 d. 1964

In the 1881 census, they’re at Ballaquark with their 9 children. By 1891 at Ballaquark, the only children still with them are William, Annie, Catherine and Lewis. In the 1901 census, both parents are deceased, Lewis is listed as head (would there be a reason why he is head rather than his older brother William?), living with William, Margaret and Catherine at Ballaquark. Both Lewis and Margaret are buried with their parents in Lonan (and siblings William, Joseph and Annie) so I assume these children never married or had families of their own. I’ve had no luck in tracking what happened to Eleanor, Robert, James and Catherine. In the 1901 census, Catherine is listed as an assistant school teacher. I’m assuming they probably married as they are not buried in the family plot. In the 1901 census, I found a James Maddrell aged 34 boarding with William & Eleanor Watterson in Conchan which seems likely but cannot prove that this is the one that I am looking for.

Any ideas or leads much appreciated.

Thank you

Donna McLean
