TT stands for Tourist Trophy, the idea of the TT in the early 1900s was to extend or test the spindly and fragile touring bikes of that time. The TT does not have a Le-Mans start but riders start in pairs at 10 second intervals. You only need to stand at the top of Bray Hill and think about what it would be like with a mass start of 50 or more bikes trying to get the correct racing line at speeds well over 140mph, before the bottom of the hill. The first TT started at St Johns, as bikes improved the present day mountain course came into use.
