Grandfather in Royal Navy WW1

Another posting has made me wonder if there would be any searchable records for my Grandfather born in Ramsey 1900 and who signed up for the Royal Navy under age and fought in WW1.
I know nothing of his time in the Navy other than he enlisted under age and his Mother apparently ran back down to where he had enlisted to tell them he was underage and she was told "Your boy is a man now" and they wouldnt listen to her. Not sure how old they had to be to join - maybe 16? I have tried searching the Royal Navy site a while back (cant remember exact name of web site off hand)where you key in the persons name but couldnt find anything that related to him. Just wondered if there would be any records in the Isle of Man of men who enlisted or if the names would just be held by Navy, Army etc?
He left the Navy probably just after the War ended and started work on the Isle of Man Steam Ferries.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
